Industry Internships
New for 2007 - ESMD Private Industry Summer Internships.
Oregon NASA Space Grant is pleased to invite undergraduates and graduate students from our consortium member colleges and universities to apply for summer internships with our local industry partners. These internships enable students to concentrate on research activities that supplement their academic coursework and help to prepare them for careers in NASA-related fields. The NASA Exploration Systems Mission Directorate provides funding for these awards. Internships at NASA Centers
There are many opportunities for students to gain valueable "on-the-job" experience through any of the many NASA internship programs. A listing of opportunites is below, click on the weblinks for further information about the specific program. OSGC support is available for the following opportunities:
NASA Center Internships
NASA Exploration Internships
NASA Exploration Internships will provide students Exploration Science Mission Directorate (ESMD) -relevant work experience in industry or at a NASA center. Students will be engaged in hands-on engineering projects with a strong and involved placement mentor. Internships are open to juniors, seniors and graduate students.
NOTE: Oregon Space Grant will sponsor four (4) students from OSGC affiliate institutions to attend. Stipends will be for $6,000 direct to each student including travel funds.

- ESMD Internship eligibility criteria include:
- Must be U.S. Citizen to participate. Proof of citizenship will be required if selected
- Age 18 or older
- Community college, undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply
- Minimum of 30 credit hours/45 quarter hours completed
- Minimum GPA of 3.0/4/0
- Enrolled full-time in an accredited U.S. university, college or community college
- Applications will be open through February 16th, 2007 for the Spring term NASA ESMD internships.

NASA Academy
NASA Academy is a national educational, training, and research resource for college undergraduate and graduate students, dedicated to promoting current and future opportunities for innovation and leadership in aerospace related careers. OSGC funding may be available for this opportunity for a qualifying student.
The objectives of NASA Academy are:
- To support and enhance the general objectives and mission of NASA.
- To make available to the selected students guided access to extensive resources at the participating NASA Research and Space Flight Centers and their infrastructure, science, technology, and organizational and managerial expertise.
- To provide a unique, intensive, and rigorous educational and training curriculum related to the organization of NASA, its in-house science and technology projects, its collaboration with other National centers, industry, and academia, and its extensive technology transfer programs.
- To facilitate access to, and dissemination of valuable information on career development paths, financial support, technical writing standards, intellectual property, etc.
- And to create an environment that fosters creativity, personal initiative, and leadership qualities, together with group mentality, teamwork, and professional ethics.

Undergraduate Student Research Program
NASA is looking for talented undergraduates to participate in our Undergraduate Student Research Program (USRP). USRP offers undergraduates across the United States mentored research experiences at participating NASA Centers and research support facilities. USRP APPLICATIONS are now available for a 10-week summer and 15-week fall session in 2007. Students may apply for ONE or BOTH sessions to increase the chance of being selected to participate. However, students will only be able to participate in one session.
- Stipend: Students will receive $5,000 (Summer) or $7,500 (Fall) stipend for the research experience plus one round-trip airfare or ground transportation costs to and from JSC.
- NOTE: Oregon Space Grant will sponsor one (1) student from an OSGC affiliate institution to attend.
- Duration: 10 Weeks (Summer) or 15 Weeks (Fall)

- Achieving Competency
in Careers in Engineering and Space Science
The program is an on-site summer work program for undergraduate and graduate
students with disabilities majoring in engineering, science, mathematics or
computer science.

Intern Program
The program prepares students for their careers in the Federal Government.
- NASA Cooperative Education Program
NASA Cooperative Education Programs are designed to combine academic studies
with on-the-job training and experience and to give students an opportunity
to work at a NASA Field Center while completing their education.

Internships are paid during the summer, when interns work approximately 40 hours
per week, and unpaid the rest of the year, when interns work approximately 20
hours per week.
- NASA Scholars
The program consists of individualized need-based scholarship or fellowship programs at 14 minority-serving institutions.
- NASA Student Job Opportunities
Are designed to combine academic studies with on-the-job training and experience
and to give students an opportunity to work with NASA while completing their
education.

Initiatives in Space Science
The program is designed to encourage minority students (particularly those of
Hawaiian ancestry) to engage in learning about culture and its relevance to
the study of space science.

This is a web site with information on technical research and internship opportunities
available in over 200 private companies, non-profit organizations, and government-sponsored
research centers and laboratories.
- The Visiting Researcher Exchange and Outreach Partnership
VREO is a partnership between the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Academic Affairs Office and Universities Space Research Association. The project is designed to stimulate involvement of university, private sector and government agency researchers with NASA.
