The Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium is pleased to host the 2009 National Space Grant Directors Meeting in Portland, Oregon.
Meeting Registration: $425 (Does NOT include Optional Excursion)
Registration includes the following: Thursday evening reception, Friday evening Portland Spirit Dinner Cruise, breakfast on Friday and Saturday, and lunch on Friday.
We invite guests to enjoy light Hors d'oeuvres, and a selection of fine local wines and micro brews during the brief reception on Thursday evening. The rest of the evening will be open for you to explore Portland and the many fine restaurants in the area.
Guest Registration: $200 (Does NOT include Optional Excursion)
Guest registration includes attendance at the Portland Spirit Dinner Cruise, the reception scheduled for Thursday evening, and meeting breakfast/lunch meals but does not include attendance at the meetings.
Guests may instead opt to attend only the Portland Spirit Dinner Cruise on Friday, October 23 for a charge of $100. In this instance, the reception and meeting meals will not be included.
Optional Excursion: $60
We have planned a special optional excursion on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. As the tour company describes the excursion, you will…
“[v]isit many of Oregon’s most famous scenic attractions in one day: Multnomah Falls, the Columbia River and Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood! Tumbling waterfalls, incredible scenic overlooks, orchard-filled valleys, majestic mountains, and the Oregon Trail await you on this tour as you ride in comfort, under the knowledgeable direction of the on-board naturalist, from sea level to over 6000 feet in one scenic loop!”
While the tour does not include lunch, guests will have the opportunity to explore and dine in Hood River, Oregon (windsurfing capitol of the US).
Hotel Registration Information: Hilton Portland and Executive Tower ($149-179/night)
Rooms are available for $149-179/night, plus taxes. These rates are available for the nights of October 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24. The deadline for hotel registration under this special rate is September 21, 2009. Note: A limited number of rooms are available for the nights of October 20, 21, and 24. If you plan to arrive in Portland early, please book your hotel room soon to ensure availability.

Activities Schedule
- Wednesday, October 21, 2009: Optional - Columbia Gorge Geologic, Geographic, and Cultural Excursion (8am–5pm)
- Thursday, October 22: Space Grant Board Meeting (8am-1pm), Space Grant General Session (1pm-5pm), Reception (5:30pm-7pm)
- Friday, October 23: Space Grant Meetings (8am-5pm), Dinner Cruise on the Portland Spirit (6:30pm-9:30pm)
- Saturday, October 24: Space Grant Meeting (8am-noon), Southeast Regional Meeting (12:30pm-5pm)
Pre-Meeting Announcements
- For guests who plan to rent a vehicle while staying in Oregon, please note that you may not pump your own gas within the state.
- Parking at the Portland Hilton and Executive Tower is $22/day.
- Wired (not wireless) internet is available in all hotel rooms for $9.95/day. Bring your cables!
- A buffet dinner, live music, and dance floor will be provided during the Portland Spirit dinner cruise. Please plan your attire to match this festive (but not necessarily formal – this IS Oregon after all) event.
- Weather in Portland during the month of October is moderate with highs in the low 60’s and lows reaching the 40’s at night. We do tend to have rain during this time of year so please pack accordingly.
- During your registration, you will be asked to provide a jacket size. Unisex sizes are available in XS-6XL. Please refer to the chest measurements, given in inches, beside each size on the registration page.
Transportation
- The Hilton Portland and Executive Tower
- There is a Portland “MAX” train station at the Portland airport. Trains run every 5-15 minutes daily between 4:30 a.m. and midnight. The Max offers an affordable, convenient, and environmentally friendly way to reach your hotel. An adult “all zone” ticket will cost $2.30. Senior fares are $0.95.
- There are no fareboxes onboard MAX. Before boarding, buy your ticket from a ticket machine or validate your previously purchased ticket in the validator located near the ticket machine. A validated ticket is your proof of payment, good for two hours on buses, MAX and Portland Streetcar. Keep your ticket until you have completed your trip.
- To reach the hotel via MAX, board MAX Red Line to City Center & Beaverton TC, exit at Mall/SW 5th Ave MAX Station, then Walk 0.2 mile southwest to 921 SW 6th Ave.
