Undergraduate Scholarship Program
NOTICE:
The deadline to submit applications to the Winter Term 2009 OSGC
Undergraduate Scholarship Program has passed! The
deadline was Friday, January 16, 2009! The Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium (OSGC)
is pleased to provide undergraduates from our member colleges and universities
opportunities to apply for scholarship awards that support their academic goals
and recognize their achievements. Applications
are now being accepted for the Winter Term 2009 Undergraduate Scholarship competitions.
Scholarships are open to new and
continuing students in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The OSGC Undergraduate Scholarship Program
supports the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) objectives of
fostering and encouraging career goals in the aerospace industry. Individuals from under-represented groups are
encouraged to apply.
Award Information
Scholarships of up to $6,000 will be awarded
through a competitive process at individual member colleges and universities. Note: Students receiving awards in past
competitions may apply and receive awards for subsequent competitions.
Dates | Deadlines
For the 2009 winter term competitions, dates
and deadlines for all member colleges and universities are as follows:
- Application
Deadline: Friday, December 19, 2008 Friday, January 16, 2009
All application
materials, including supporting documentation, must be received at the OSGC
office by the stated deadline. Incomplete or late applications will not be
considered.
- Award
Announcement: Friday, February
27, 2009
Applicants will be
notified of award decisions by email. The awards will be made payable to the
student directly. Note: Award information will be reported to the appropriate
Office of Financial Aid and may affect the student's financial aid package.
- Award
Presentation:
No Later than March 13, 2009
Awards will be
presented by a representative of the member institution.
Eligibility
Scholarships are open to students who meet
the following eligibility criteria:
- Enrolled
full-time at a member institution (see list below) during the period of
the award
- Pursuing
a baccalaureate degree in a science, technology, engineering or math discipline,
including math or science education – OR pursuing an associate degree in
applied science with intent to pursue a baccalaureate degree in same.
- Good
academic standing
- U.S.

in either MS Word format (DOC) or Adobe Acrobat format (PDF). Please

Attach the
following supporting documentation to the application
§
Letter of Intent: Indicate your career goals as they relate to
NASA and how this scholarship will contribute to those goals. Describe how your career choice will benefit
the aerospace community at large.
Include other information that you believe qualifies you for scholarship
consideration. (Suggested length 250-300 words)
§ Student Resume: Include relevant
employment, education, and extra-curricular activities. Resume should also provide current contact
information including email, phone, and mailing address.
§ Two Current Letters
of Recommendation: Letters should specifically address your qualifications
for this scholarship and must be submitted on letterhead with complete contact
information and signature. Inclusion of letters with the application package is
preferred, although, if sent separately, will be accepted provided they are
received by the stated deadline.

Note:
If sent electronically (either with the application package or separately) the
letter must be sent from the email account of the individual making the
recommendation or submitted as a signed, scanned document.
§
Academic Transcript: An unofficial
transcript printed from the student account of the college or university
website is acceptable.

Review | Selection Process
The OSGC office evaluates the eligibility of
all applications received. Qualified applications will be reviewed by the
individual member institutions who will make recommendations for funding to the
OSGC Director based on the quality of the applications as reflected in the
review criteria. The final award
decision will be at the discretion of the OSGC Director. Preference may be
given to women and individuals from under-represented groups.

Other Requirements
Award recipients agree to:
- Notify
OSGC of any changes in mailing address, e-mail address, or telephone
number for purposes of progress reports.
- Grant
permission to release and/or publish requested recipient information to
NASA or other appropriate parties.
