Oregon Science Teachers Association

OSTA is a state chapter of the National Science Teachers Association comprised of local teachers who are interested in all levels of science education. Its purpose is to encourage, promote, and assist in improving science teaching and learning throughout the state. Approximately 500 in-service and pre-service educators attend the OSTA annual conference and expo. OSGC collaborates with NASA's Aerospace Education Services Program and the Oregon NASA Explorer schools to provide an exhibit booth at the conference.

  • Voyages in Education and Public Outreach
    For the larger space science research community and other individuals interested in the accomplishments in space science education and outreach from the NASA Office of Space Science. Published 3 times a year.

  • NSTA Express
    For science educators interested in the latest news and information from the National Science Teachers Association Newletter in a short "news bites" format. Published weekly.

  • Space Explorers: Planetary Times
    For science educators interested in the latest news and information from the National Science Teachers Association Newletter in a short "news bites" format. Published weekly.

  • Exploration Systems Mission Directorate Newsletters

  • Exploration Express helps ESMD personnel, the NASA community, and the nation stay up-to-date on activities throughout the directorate and recognizes those in ESMD who are working to make the Vision for Space Exploration a success. Published monthly on the 15th.

  • Space Radiation Newsletter is the newsletter of the Space Radiation Health Project whos goal is to achieve human exploration and development of space without exceeding an acceptable level of risk from exposure to space radiation. Published semi-annually.

  • Space Nutrition is the newsletter of the Nutritional Biochemistry Laboratory. Nutrition is central to the health and safety of our space explorers, helping to counteract physiological adaptations and improving the quality of life in space. Some of the operational issues related to space flight are nutritional content, microbial monitoring, and food packaging, preparation, and storage. This newsletter is appropriate for kids.

  • Space Research was the quarterly newsletter for the Office of Biological and Physical Resarch, which is now part of the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate. It contains articles, news and events on our research activities. Archive issues only.

  • Microgravity News was the quarterly predecessor to Space Research published between the early 1990s and Summer 2001. Included here are the last two issue for historical purposes. Archive issues only.



  • Central Western Oregon Science Expo

    OSGC participates annually in the Central Western Oregon Science Expo (CWOSE). This year the expo met on Friday February 23 and Saturday February 24, 2007 at the Western Oregon University Werner Center. CWOSE was a joint meeting of the Oregon Junior Academy of Science (OJAS), Junior Science and Humanities Symposium – JSHS (Sponsored by American Academy of Applied Science and the military), and the Regional Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). OJAS and JSHS are statewide oral science competitions attracting more than 300 participants including middle and high school students and teachers, representatives from colleges and universities, and the general public.

    Intel Northwest Science Expo

    OSGC particpates annually in the Northwest Science Expo held at Portland State University. The Intel Northwest Science Expo is the Intel International Science and Engineering and the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge Affiliated State level Science Fair for Oregon, Clark County Washington and some neighboring California counties. The ISEF International Fair brings more than 1500 students from more than 40 nations together to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips, and the grand prize - a $50,000 college scholarship.

    Oregon Space Grant Consortium is funded through a NASA Training Grant
