The Western Oregon University (WOU) balloon team successfully launched and recovered their first high altitude weather balloon. The balloon was equipped with both a communications and a science module. WOU mathematics student Andy Fry and OSU physics students Justin Schepige and Eric Stringer accompanied WOU physics professor Dr. William Schoenfeld on a 22-hour road trip to Central Oregon, where they launched the balloon from Fort Rock State Park. The balloon's highest recorded altitude was 90,833 feet. The payload and parachute landed about 45 minutes northeast of the launch site, near Glass Buttes, Oregon. Everything was found in perfect condition just minutes before sundown.
Congratulations on a successful inaugural launch!
