Introduction:

The objective of this internship would be to allow for continued work and research on the Project Mango Energy Reclamation System by revisiting the design of the ERS miniature model to allow for a horizontal flat magnet orientation in the propeller tips as opposed to the vertical facing orientation in the current model and to reduce the amount of coils from 16 to 12. This modification will both allow the addition of a third phase to the system as well as allow an increase the diameter and depth of the coil cutouts allowing for larger induction coils increasing EMF generation.

Position Description:

The purpose of the internship would be to continue research into the Energy Reclamation System project. Students would work to redesign our initial tabletop model of the ERS to increase the voltage and current output returned to the power systems from the induction coils. Students will work with Solidworks for CAD design and 3D printing along with Matlab for some elements of mathematical modeling.

Position Responsibilities:
  • ยท Reapproach the design of the ERS cowl bracket.
  • Switching to a 3 phase system over the current 2 phase power system.
  • Increase coil diameters and depth.
  • Re-orient the propeller magnets and how they are held in place.
  • Successfully wrap and place coils.
  • Construct circuit for AC->DC rectification.
  • To have a complete and functioning miniature ERS model by the end of internships
Required/Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications would include experience with CAD or Matlab. Class experience through vector calculus is preferred but not required. Prior 3-D printing, CAD or programming experience in Matlab or python is a plus.
