Project Description

This research project aims to streamline and automate the configuration process of the Interplanetary Overlay Network (ION) for virtual machine testbeds using Python scripts integrated with Ansible. The objective is to eliminate the tedious and error-prone manual set up phase and enable efficient deployment of ION testing environments. A systematic approach starting with a comprehensive understanding of delay-tolerant networking and ION through initial setup and testing was completed to gain insights into the process and identify potential challenges. Research was further conducted on the integration of ION and Ansible, exploring the capabilities and possibilities of automating the configuration process. Linux-based service files, Python scripting, and YAML scripting were used to integrate the automatic configurations process within Ansible for ION.
